Lewis Sims

Lewis Sims is married to Amber Colville of Moss Point and is the son of Jane and Warren Sims of Forts Lake.  He and Amber have three children, Mckinley, Mallory, and Austin.  He is a 1990 graduate of Moss Point High School, and attended the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland where he was a two-year letterman in football.  Coach Sims earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1996 and became an assistant coach and English teacher at Magnolia Junior High School, in Moss Point.  In 1997, he became head coach of Magnolia’s football team and led them to a two year record of 14-2.  After earning his masters degree in Educational Leadership from William Carey College, he left Moss Point to teach and coach at East Central High School.  He and his wife moved to New York in June 2000 where he taught English and volunteered as a linebacker and quarterback coach for two years at Sewanhaka High School.  In July of 2002, he was hired as the defensive coordinator at Lynbrook High School.  In July of 2004, he and his wife moved home to the Mississippi Gulf Coast, and he returned to his alma mater to coach under the legendary Jerry Alexander.  Upon Coach Alexander’s retirement, Coach Sims became the new head football coach and athletics director for the Moss Point School District.  He led the Tigers to a record of 25-11 with three playoff appearances, one region title, and one South State appearance.  In April 2011, Coach Sims started a new phase in his career as an English teacher and head football coach at Pascagoula High School.   In his first season, he led the Panthers to their first playoff birth in four years and earned a playoff victory for the first time since 1995.  In 2012, the Panthers emerged as South State Champions and played for a 5A State Championship.  In 2013, the Panthers were Region 4-5A Champions for the first time since 2003.  During his four years at the helm, Coach Sims has led the Panthers to a record of 39-13.  Coach Sims was selected as the Frank “Twig” Branch Coach of the Year by the Gulf Coast Chapter of the National Football Foundation as well as the Sun Herald Coach of the Year and WLOX Co-Coach of the Year in 2012.  He is the treasurer of the Gulf Coast Chapter of the National Football Foundation and is an active member of the Mississippi Association of Coaches, Mississippi Association of Athletic Administrators, and First United Methodist Church of Pascagoula.   He enjoys spending time with his wife and children and entertaining family and friends.
